The University of Technology Sydney was the Administering Organisation for the study. Nick Hopwood is Associate Professor at the UTS School of Education, in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. UTS provided over $35,000 in support for dissemination and engagement throughout the project.
The ARC funded the Creating Better Futures study through the Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) scheme, project number DE150100365. $370,000 was provided over three years 2015-2017. The objectives of the DECRA scheme including supporting excellent research by early career researchers; expanding Australia’s knowledge base and research capability; and enhancing the scale and focus of research in the Science and Research Priorities
Karitane provides education and support on the unique challenges of parenting to mums and dads with children from birth to 5 years of age. They supported the study by offering access to their services as sites for data collection, and by releasing staff to attend engagement workshops and presentations. Karitane also supported a prior study based on their Residential Service.
Tresillian is an early parenting service offering families guidance in the early years of their child's life. They support new parents around breastfeeding and settling baby, as well as dealing with post-natal depression and nutrition. Tresillian supported the study by offering access to their services as sites for data collection, and by releasing staff to attend engagement workshops and presentations.
NSLHD is the public health provider for the Hornsby & Kuring Gai, North Shore Ryde, and Northern Beaches areas of Sydney. They offer diverse services for families with young children, including home visiting, day stays, and innovating early parenting groups. The District supported the study by offering access to their services as sites for data collection, and by releasing staff to attend engagement workshops and presentations.
The Tasmanian Department of Education oversees the State's Child and Family Centres (CFCs). CFCs are places for families with children from birth to 5 years of age to access a range of services. Their aim is to improve the health and well-being, education and care of Tasmania’s very young children by supporting parents and enhancing accessibility of services in the local community. The DoE supported the study by offering access to three CFCs as sites for data collection, and by releasing staff to attend engagement workshops and presentations.
SA Health is the public health provider for the State. Among their services is the South Australia Women and Children's Health Network (WCHN) which is South Australia's leading provider of health services for children, young people and women. The WCHN works in partnership with clients and families, the community and other service providers to promote, maintain and restore health. SA Health supported the study by providing access to WCHN services as sites of data collection, and by releasing staff to attend engagement workshops and presentations.
The CPCS is home of the Family Partnership Model (FPM). The FPM is an innovative approach based upon an explicit model of the helping process that demonstrates how specific helper qualities and skills, when used in partnership, enable parents and families to overcome their difficulties, build strengths and resilience and fulfil their goals more effectively. The FPM has been implemented in many countries, and in all the services we studied. The CPCS supported the study through regular meetings and exchange of ideas. The FPM provided the starting framework for understanding partnership in the study.
